The ACT Rogaining Association’s Paddy Pallin rogaine event weekend on 28 February – 1 March 2015 was a great success with over 450 competitors enjoying the beautiful Tinderry Ranges, an hour south of Canberra. Results are now available for both the Saturday and Sunday events.

Saturday was a warm clear day with around 280 Australian National University students out learning and testing their navigational skills ready for their Inward Bound competition at the end of March.

On Sunday a thunderstorm mid-event did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the field of 170 who competed in the regular Paddy Pallin 6hr event, with Olympic marathon runner Martin Dent teaming up with Brad Hetharia to win from Paul Cuthbert and visiting orienteer Lukas Frei. Julie Quinn and Simon Fairweather were third overall, winning the mixed category, and Lizzie Ingram and Sarah Buckerfield won the women’s event.

A big thank you to all the landholders for sharing their wonderful properties, to all the volunteers for their efforts in making the event run so smoothly and for Paddy Pallin for sponsoring the prizes at the end!

About The Author

The ACT Rogaining Association is the home of rogaining, the sport of long distance cross-country navigation, in Canberra. Rogaines are generally day and night events in which teams of two to five members travel entirely on foot, navigating by map and compass. Events range in time from 3 to 24 hours. Teams get maps a few hours before the start time, then select which checkpoints they want to visit. You can try and visit all the checkpoints, or simply visit the more picturesque places. All rogaines include good food at the end.
