Questions on Thermarest Neo Air XLite Mattress

Sort by Descending
  • From Tanya Bosch at 1/01/13 12:49 PM
    • I note that the corrugated looking mats are 6.3cm thick as compared to the smooth ones that are anything from 2.5 to 5cm thick. Which one is best for someone like me who has problems with sore hips.
    • Hi Tanya,

      Thanks for contacting us.

The ‘smooth’ looking mats are foam filled and self inflating as the foam expands, whether the corrugated are air filled and require more air to inflate.

If you have sore hips of any kind, I would suggest the thicker the mattress the better. this will give you body more room to ‘sink’ into the mattress giving more even weight spread and hence better support. A 5cm+ thick foam mattress will be the most comfortable, but heavier and bulkier than the Neo Air Xlite.

The Neo Air range is very comfortable for their size and weight, but feel different as they are air filled and not foam. However they still have the thickness to sink into so, so there would be minor differences.

The main takeaway point here is just to find a mattress that's light and compact enough for your use, but as thick as possible.

      Hope this helps!
