Do these gaiters attach to the front and rear of the boot. I have a ring at the front and Velcro on the heal for this

Yes, they are designed to attach at both the front and rear of the shoe (or boot), but only if your footwear supports their “gaiter-trap” attachment system.
At the front, the gaiter hooks onto the laces, there’s a small metal or plastic hook that grabs the front-most lace or lace-loop to secure the gaiter around the forefoot.
At the rear/heel, the gaiter uses a Velcro tab. For best results, your shoe or boot should have a matching Velcro patch or “gaiter trap” on the heel. With that in place, the gaiter wraps snugly around the back of the shoe so it stays in place.
If your boot already has a ring at the front (for the hook) and Velcro on the heel (for the rear tab), the Altra Trail Gaiters should attach securely. If the rear Velcro patch isn’t built-in, you might need to affix the supplied adhesive Velcro strip that comes with the gaiters. That said, these gaiters are optimized for trail runners / lightweight hiking shoes, so with heavier or bulkier boots the fit may be less secure than with their intended footwear.
