The Back Country Cuisine Small Serve meal preparation doesn't get any easier than this. Simply add the required amount of hot or cold water stated on the back of each meal pouch, stir and let stand for 10 minutes. The result is a delicious hot meal wherever you may be.
Check out the added lower tear tab on all pouches; once the meal has been reconstituted just tear the lower perforation and use the pouch as a bowl. A great idea and saves getting messy hands when using your spoon or fork.
ABOUT FREEZE DRIED FOOD
Back Country Cuisine is easy to prepare and great tasting because of the freeze drying process and their recipe preparations. This combines quick-to-hydrate, freeze-dried vegetables and meats with sauce mixes processed to retain their natural flavours. The result is delicious meals you can prepare in the pack in 10 minutes by adding boiling water.
During freeze drying, crystals of frozen ice in the food are sublimed (evaporated) to water vapour in a vacuum chamber. The result is a completely dry product that does not shrink during the drying process. When prepared for eating, water is quickly absorbed by the pores left by the ice crystals and creates a juicy, tender food product.
After packing, the food is heat-sealed in foil pouches with all air removed and replaced with nitrogen gas. This keeps the food safe and flavoursome for at least 4 years without the need for preservatives.
Back Country Cuisine meals are formulated to meet the high energy needs of outdoor activity. There is a careful balance of carbohydrates and sugars for instant energy, protein to replenish exhausted muscles, and oils and fat to provide an energy store. Oils and fats are kept below 30% of total energy.
Freeze drying retains the natural vitamins in the food because of the low temperatures used in processing. Along with naturally occuring minerals and the addition of salt, the meals provide vitamins and minerals necessary to stay healthy.

Onion free options are very limited. The only onion free options include: Beef And Pasta Hotpot, Instant Rice, Mashed Potato and the Breakfast/Dessert options. I can also recommend Strives Chicken Broccoli Pesto Pasta which is onion free.
