More glorious sunny and warm weather greeted a record number of teams at last weekends Paddy Pallin Adventure Series round at the Lower Blue Mountains just west of Sydney. An exciting course for both the Classic and Novice courses consisted of a short rogaine around the hub, kayaking on the Nepean River, trail running, perfect single track for the mountain bike and to all competitors excitement the canyon splash & scramble through Glenbrook Gorge.

With temperatures predicted to push into the high 30’s the start time was moved 1 hour early with most teams enjoying the cool morning and escaping the afternoon heat. However hydration was high on everyone’s plan with plenty of people stocking up on Osprey Packs, Clif Bars and Gu’s at the Paddy Pallin stand before the race started.

The Classic course witnessed some great racing with 13 teams completing the bonus run or bike leg before the cutoff. The Armstrong brothers of Belrose Bicycles continued their winning ways in the mens. While the mixed category saw the tightest finish of the day with Shane Field & Neroli Field from Mixed Up pipping Go to bed Tom’s Brett Healey & Clare Williams by only 9 seconds!!

The Novice race continues to grow with every race with 51 teams enjoying their 1st taste of adventure racing, with a highlight being the high number of couples and family’s (including one young lad who was just 6 years of age) competing. With the prizes being given out in a lucky draw format everyone had a chance to win something on the day.

For those who are still keen to join the fun there is one race left in the 2017 Paddy Pallin Adventure Series, the ever popular “Amazing Race” held in Sydney’s CBD on the 25th of November.

Special thanks to Maximum Adventure, the volunteers, Paddy Pallin and co-supporters Osprey Packs.
