More sunny and warm weather greeted the 125 teams at last weekends Paddy Pallin Adventure Series round at the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney. A challenging course consisting of a short rogaine, kayaking on the Nepean River, trail running, canyoning and some perfect single track for the mountain bike. With temperatures pushing into the 30’s hydration was high on everyone’s plan with plenty of people stocking up on equipment, Marmot and Icebreaker clothing at the Paddy Pallin stand before the race started. Racing was extremely tight in the female category with only 3 seconds separating the top two teams after over more than 4 hours of racing with Cagney and Racey taking the win over Type2Fun. The Armstrong brothers of team Belrose Bicycles continued their unbeaten run of the Series in NSW with another strong win in the male category. In the mixed a consistent race plan helped Traces of Mixed Nuts in taking the win. While racing was fast paced at the pointy end the majority of the competitors where enjoying their 1st ever adventure race with lots of smiles and chat at the finish line while enjoying burgers and cake. With many saying the swim through the canyon was a highlight as it was a great way to cool down mid race. For those who are still keen to join the fun there are two races left in the 2015 Paddy Pallin Adventure Series, the ever popular “Amazing Race” held in Sydney’s CBD on 7/11/15 and the last of the Paddy Pallin Adventure Series in Melbourne in late November. Special thanks to Maximum Adventure the volunteers, Paddy Pallin and cosupporters Marmot Australia & Icebreaker. Full results and photos from the weekend can be found here.
