The first two legs of the Paddy Pallin Adventure Series were run over the weekend at Glenrock near the Newcastle CBD with warm weather and sunny skies greeting the participants on both days. With over $3500 in vouchers from Paddy Pallin, Marmot and Icebreaker up for grabs each day the competition was fierce.

The course consisted of a great mixture of trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. Each day’s kayak differed slightly with beach closures on Saturday due to shark sightings at nearby beaches shortening the kayak leg. On Sunday there where no sharks and a majority of the kayakers got a chance to get out into the surf. However the call was made mid race to adjust the kayak leg due to some heavy sets of waves playing havoc with the paddlers and to add to the excitement flip the Surf Rescue IRB.

On Saturday the Armstrong brothers took out a tightly contested mens race in just under 1 hour and 30 minutes. Jenny and Damien Enderby celebrated a romantic Valentines Day with a win in the mixed race and “The Girl’s Next Door” Jodi Todd and Michelle Cameron came first in the women’s.

Sundays race had a few less competitors however the racing was no less competitive with the Father/Son team of Scott and Brock Taylor looking like they barely raised a sweat in the muggy conditions as they crossed the finish line in first place. Jill Mcnaught and Marcel Van Schie got the win in the mixed by a close two minutes. The Brown Sisters Nikki and Sonia won the women’s with a great final bike leg pulling them past a couple of teams.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the large amount of people racing in their first adventure race, coming away with some great stories and big smiles. The nature of the Paddy Pallin Adventure Series makes the day perfect for the weekend warrior who wants to enjoy the outdoors with a friend and have some fun along the way. As bonus all teams who stayed for the presentation went into the chance to win prizes and vouchers from Paddy Pallin.

Huge congratulations to all the participants and full results and photographs for both Saturday and Sunday can be found here
