What type of material should I look for in my hiking clothes?
If you are going to be climbing mountains and exerting a lot of energy, look for moisture-wicking hiking clothing that draws sweat away from your body and dries quickly. Mountain clothing made from merino wool is also a good option as it is highly breathable and odour resistant. The Australian bush can be quite rugged so look for durable fabrics if you are planning on walking down some overgrown tracks.
How do I pick a hiking jacket?
With so many jackets it can be hard to know where to start. First, think about the outdoor activity and the climate that you will be using the jacket in. If you are in the mountains and the climate will be cold, look for an insulated hiking jacket. Mountain clothing will need to be lightweight and warm. Goose down jackets are very effective at retaining heat while being very lightweight and packable. We range many different men’s and women’s down jackets along with synthetic insulation pieces. If you are in moderate climates and exerting a lot of energy you will be looking for a very breathable jacket such as a light fleece jacket, as it will allow the excess heat and moisture to escape.
What brands of hiking and camping clothes does Paddy Pallin stock?
We stock a wide range of leading outdoor clothing brands to ensure that we can equip you for a wide range of adventures.
Our range includes casual and hiking shirts, insulated jackets as well as hiking pants and shorts from brands including Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot, Kuhl, Arc’Teryx, Helly Hansen and more. Icebreaker thermals for women and men, shirts and tees along with pants and jackets are also apart of our range.
What is the best way to care for my camping clothing?
Most hiking and camping clothes will have care instructions on the label with the best way to clean your garment. When cleaning Gore-Tex jackets and other waterproof fabrics, a specialised cleaner such asNikwax Tech Wash is recommended as it does not damage the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating on your gear. Don’t forget to wash your gear regularly as dirt and the oils from your skin will break down the waterproof membranes.
Does Paddy Pallin sell clothing for Trail Running?
Yes! We stock trail running clothing in our stores and online. We have a range of technical lightweight shorts, tights and tops that will help you to smash your goals while out on the trail. Pro-tip, look for fabrics that are odour resistant or blended with merino (a naturally odour resistant material) to stay fresh no matter how hard you push yourself. Your trail mates will thank us!
Does Paddy Pallin Sell thermals?
We have a range of thermals in-store and online. We stock Polypropylene thermals which are great for keeping you warm when sitting around in the evening or when you won’t be too active. If you are going to be hiking up mountains, carving up the ski slopes or hitting the crag you will be exerting a lot more energy and will need a more breathable fabric which wicks moisture away from your body. Arc’teryx and Helly Hansen are leaders in synthetic thermals that breathe with you, allowing you to stay warm and dry all day long. Icebreaker thermals are made from merino wool, a natural fibre that also works to keep you warm no matter how much of a sweat you’re working up. Icebreaker thermals are highly breathable, wick away moisture and are naturally odour resistant.
