Does Paddy Pallin stock Icebreaker merino tops?

Icebreaker specialises in clothing made from top quality New Zealand merino wool. Merino fibres are highly regarded by clothing makers for their ability to regulate temperature, control odours and be super durable. We have a large range of men’s icebreaker clothing including t-shirts, pullovers and long-sleeved base layers.  

What’s better, merino or synthetic clothing? 

Merino wool and synthetics are both great fibres to make outdoor clothing from, and you will find plenty of both in our range. Merino wool is celebrated for its anti-odour properties, moisture-wicking and excellent temperature regulation. However, it will be a bit slower to dry, heavier and generally more expensive than a comparable synthetic alternative. Synthetics are not all created equal, but in general, they excel at moisture wicking, will be cheaper, are fast drying and also great temperature regulators. So whilst neither is vastly better overall, each will have some pros and cons. 

Are men’s vests available at Paddy Pallin? 

Vests can be an excellent addition to a clothing layering system. Keeping the torso and vital organs warm whilst allowing the arms and underarms to breath. We stock a selection of vests including men’s down vests, synthetic fill vests and fleece vests. 

Does Paddy Pallin sell moisture-wicking tops for men?

One of the most crucial features of outdoor clothing is its ability to wick moisture. Wicking is the process of moisture being transported away from the skin. The vast majority of our men’s tops are designed to wick sweat and other moisture, especially those designed as next-to-skins garments. This assists greatly with regulating your body temperature, keeping you both cooler in hot and sweaty conditions, and warmer when it gets cold.

Can I buy shirts with UV protection from Paddy Pallin? 

Staying protected from the sun while outdoors is important. We know that sun hats, sunglasses and sunscreen will do their respective jobs, but what about sun protective clothing? There are several factors that affect how UV protective garments will be, including the construction and fit. Some of our garments will be given a UPF rating, which much like an SPF rating tells you how effective that garment is at blocking harmful UV rays. A rating of UPF 50 allows just 2% of the UV ray to penetrate the fabric. Generally speaking though, all clothing will offer some level of UV protection, but ideally, look for garments that are constructed from a tight or densely woven fabric (synthetics and wool are good) and with a looser fit. Tops with long sleeves and high collars will also add extra coverage.
