Environmental conservation is at the heart of our business. We want to be a part of the solution to mitigate climate change, so that future generations can enjoy our earth as much as we have been able to. We’re strong believers in only buying what you need, and looking after your gear so that it lasts as long as possible. That’s why we’re taking steps towards fostering a circular economy to help keep our gear in use for years to come.
What is a Circular Economy?
A circular economy is a system where materials never turn into waste. Through regenerative practices like repairing, repurposing, recycling, and composting, a circular economy prioritises keeping products in use and out of landfill.
We pride ourselves on supplying durable, high-quality products that are designed for the long-haul, but this also means that we have a responsibility to consider what happens to the products we sell at the end of their life.
Join the Circular Movement
We’re teaming up with two incredible organisations within the circular economy movement that are helping to divert gear and textiles away from landfill. When you donate your old gear to any Paddy Pallin store, our team will assess each product, using a three-tiered closed loop process to determine its circular value.
Step 1: Repair - If eligible for a repair, the item will be sent to our partner Remote Repairs, who will restore and resell it to extend the life of the garment.
Step 2: Repurpose - If it’s damaged beyond repair, Remote Repairs will repurpose eligible items into a completely new product, like a waistpack, tote bag, or laptop case.
Step 3: Recycle - If the item is completely unusable, we’ll send it to our textile recycling partner Upparel, where it will be transformed into new recycled materials.
Remote Repairs
Our friends at Remote Equipment Repairs first opened in Victoria back in the early ‘90s. They were way ahead of the curve, identifying a need for a repair and recycling solution within the Australian outdoor community. Since their humble beginnings, they’ve expanded to become one of the most trusted repairers of outdoor gear in the country, with decades of experience repairing tents, packs, mats, and technical clothing.
Remote Repairs have recently launched their repurposed brand, R4, which aims to divert gear away from landfill. With R4, damaged items that are donated to remote repairs are either restored to working condition, or repurposed into something completely different - breathing a whole new life into your old outdoor garments.
How Do I Donate?
If you’re ready to give your old gear a new lease of life, simply pop into a Paddy Pallin store (excluding franchises) and our team will be happy to take it off your hands. We’ll send it off to the team at Remote Repairs where they’ll either repair or repurpose the item, ready to be purchased and used by a fellow outdoor enthusiast.
*Please note that items sent to Remote Repairs are donation only, and will not be returned to the customer after repair. For faulty products and warranty issues, chat to our customer service team or head in-store for further assistance.
