NAVIGATING A CHANGING CLIMATE
So much change has happened in the last few years when it comes to taking all considerations before entering an event - we’re talking natural alterations in climate and the habitat around us. Hilary McAllister from For Wild Places discovers that these days there’s much to absorb and prepare than just taking time off work and ensuring your training is up to par.
FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Patience is a virtue, especially in the race photography game when you’re capturing moments from a 200 mile event. TRM photographer Astrid Volzke gives us a look into the world of waiting and waiting, and showcases some of her favourite images from the 2023 Delirious WEST in WA.
BECOMING AUDACIOUS
A hip niggle that turned out to be much worse could have given NZ runner Rachel Bridgewater the excuses to stop trail running. But she found her motivation through registering for The Wild, and discovered she found she had a lot to learn about patience and what it takes to become audacious.
MAD MISSION IN TASSIE
The Tasmanian Trail is a 470km-long adventure filled with experiences for every traveller - from adept and skilled long-distance runners to those who want shorter and more relaxed excursions for relaxation and photographing. Contributor Piotr Babis shares with TRM readers his 2022 (Im)possible7 Project where he took on 7 of Tasmania’s best trails on offer.
HALLUCINATIONS WITH A…PIRATE?
Sometimes things go ’weird’ when there’s an ultra run involved. And by wrong, we mean the brain starts to get exhausted just like the rest of the body. Contributor Paul Watkins takes us on a journey into his most recent encounter with a world renown pirate whilst running the 105mi You Yangs Trail Ultra.
THE LOST HOBBIT OF NZ
Starting on 1 February 2023, Alex ’The Lost Hobbit’ Bezzina took off from Stirling Point, Bluff, NZ for an adventure that would see him run the length of the country northbound to raise funds for threatened wildlife. Isobel Ross managed to catch up with him whilst he was out running through the Canterbury region.
ADAPTIVE ATHLETES TAKE ON TRAILS
Well versed in track and road wheelchair racing, Queensland elite athlete and 2020 Gold Coast Woman of the Year finalist Natasha Price, together with her coach Adam Shepherd, lined up at this year’s Noosa Ultra-Trail to tackle the terrain hard and fast. Editor Kate Dzienis gets the inside scoop before their big race.
