What waterproof pants does Paddy Pallin stock?

We stock a variety of waterproof pants from packable over-pants to alpine waterproof pants. The ultimate goal of waterproof pants is to keep you dry. There is nothing worse than being protected from the wet elements, but sweating beneath your waterproof pants and getting damp from the inside. As such, breathability becomes a key factor in your decision, especially in warm or humid conditions, and if you will be exerting yourself and perspiring while wearing the garments. The waterproof pants we range with 2-layer and 3-layer membranes provide a watertight barrier to the harshest weather while optimising breathability for high out-put activities. Models such as the Arcteryx Zeta SL pant have 2-layer Gore-tex and NEW PACLITE® technology for industry-leading waterproofing and breathability. All of our waterproof pants come with pockets, and many offer lower leg zippers which allow you to easily pull them on over hiking boots and shoes in a hurry as the weather changes. Does Paddy Pallin stock fleece pants?

Yes, we do! We stock Mont Micro Pants that are a Polartec 100 weight fleece, which are similar to tracksuit pants, but much warmer! They are perfect camp pants for the end of a long day outdoors and conveniently come with handwarmer pockets. We also stock Rab Power Stretch Pro pants which are fitted, like tights, with a Polartec Power Stretch Pro fleece lining, and can be worn as a mid-layer or even a base layer, fitting nicely under trekking pants for cold climates.

What features are good in trekking pants?

Hiking pants come in a wide range of styles. The first key point is fit, which changes across different brands. In women's hiking pants the waistline can be mid or high, and we stock a range of leg lengths from 30” (short) to 34” (long) to help you get the best fit. Secondly, quick-dry material is an essential feature in trekking pants. Whether you get caught in a rain shower or are physically working hard to achieve your goal, wet pants are uncomfortable!  Additional handy features are roll-up ankle cuffs, belt loops, articulated knee seams for minimal material pull when trekking all day, and all of our trekking pants come with pockets. Some softshell pants for cold climates will include a hook-style belt designed for easy use while wearing gloves. Also, models such as Kuhl Splash Roll-Up Pant come in a variety of colours for extra style while on the trail. Does Paddy Pallin stock tights?

We sure do! Tights have become a staple in every active wardrobe. We stock full-length tights that perform as a high out-put base layer in cold climates, perfect under softshell pants, through to The North Face Motivation HR Pocket 7/8 tights that come with a phone pocket for longer activities. All our tights come in stretch fabrics and with a comfortable waistband.

How are softshell pants different to waterproof pants?

Softshell pants are designed to keep us warm in cold climates and protect from wind chill. Waterproof pants also cut out the windchill with their outer fabric, although they do not offer warmth without another layer underneath. Softshell pants have an inner lining of woven fabric, designed to capture body heat and keep us warm, while the outer fabric allows stretch and breathability, it is also treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) coating to promote water beading off the softshell pants. While waterproof pants are the go-to for wet-weather adventures, softshell pants are perfect for ski-touring, alpine hiking and sightseeing around cold climate cities and alpine towns.
