What is the best size bag to travel with?

The answer to this question depends on a few factors, like the length of time you’re spending away, how many items you need to take, and the type of travel you’re doing! Mobility is always essential, so try to pick the bag that is the easiest for you to transport, comfortable to carry, and has enough space to fit your possessions. If the bag fits within carry-on luggage bag dimensions (often 56cm x 36xm x 23cm), that’s even better!

The dimensions and weight allowance will vary between airlines, although international is often slightly larger than domestic. The most common airline dimensions for Australian airlines (such as Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia) is 56cm x 36xm x 23cm. Typically, the weight allowance for carry-on luggage is a total of 7kg.

How should I care for and store my luggage and travel packs?

Good quality luggage and packs will give you many years of faithful service – but only if you look after it. Never store your luggage when wet, and make sure to store it away from direct sunlight. It’s normal for bags to get dirty, but giving grubby luggage or packs a clean will keep them in use for longer.

Never machine wash luggage. Some water and mild soap applied to the outside with a sponge or soft brush can be all that’s required. If your bag is really dirty, soaking it in warm water will help. A specialised cleaner like Nikwax Techwash is the recommended solution for cleaning most of your outdoor gear.
