At Paddy Pallin we stock a wide range of GPS and electronics designed to be used in the outdoors. We stock several Garmin GPS devices which are used to help you navigate when out hiking or in remote locations. We also stock satellite communicators from Garmin such as the Garmin inReach Mini 2 GPS which can be used to communicate to friends or family back home as well as sending SOS signals to search & rescue if there is an emergency. At Paddy Pallin we also stock GPS watches and fitness watches from the company Coros. These GPS watches are the  perfect adventure companion as they keep you on the trails and also track all your health metrics to ensure you are training effectively. To ensure your electronics never run out of battery when in the outdoors, we stock fast charging power banks from Biolite and lightweight solar panels from Knog and Biolite. In the case of an emergency when in a remote location without a phone signal, a PLB device is invaluable. What is a PLB?

PLBs also known as Personal Locator Beacons are an essential piece of safety equipment which should accompany you on all your hikes. PLBs are used in the case of an emergency such as a serious injury where you or a member in your group are unable to access medical treatment independently and require search & rescue. With a press of a button a PLB transmits a distress signal of your location to local emergency services to come to provide search & rescue. A personal locator beacon can be used worldwide on land or sea, making a PLB an essential piece of emergency equipment which should be brought on all your trips. Also, a PLB can still be used for emergencies in remote locations in situations where your mobile phone would not have reception which is invaluable when hiking.

Yes! At Paddy Pallin we stock the Ocean Signal RescueME PLB 1 a high quality PLB which you can rely on in the outdoors. Unlike some other PLBs on the market, the Ocean Signal RescueME PLB 1 does not charge service fees to use it as it is funded by governments. How do I charge my electronics while hiking?

No need to stress, there are several ways of charging your electronics while in the outdoors. The most convenient method is using a portable charger as depending on the device it can provide multiple charges, perfect for sharing with a group or for personal use on a multiday trip. If you plan on doing a day hike or a multiday hike where your phone battery will last and you are comfortable navigating with a phone using predownloaded maps, then a dedicated GPS device may not be necessary. If you are planning a longer trip and to more remote locations, a dedicated GPS device is invaluable as they have a superior battery life and you can access detailed GPS maps while out in the field. Handheld GPS devices are built to withstand the rugged conditions you may encounter in the outdoors which is crucial for such an important device. Some handheld GPS devices can also be used as a satellite communicator which allows you to communicate to friends or family back home and can also send SOS signals to search & rescue in an emergency.
