HIking long distances for the Oxfam Trailwalker is a rewarding and memorable experience. The triumphant crossing with your team in tow is a considerable accomplishment that should not be hindered by the equipment you choose to take with you.  Participants should carefully consider both the clothing and equipment they use during the journey as any slightly ill-fitting boots or irritating fabric will become much more of an issue as they accumulate kilometers.

Materials such as merino wool are prized for their suitability for hiking. Their moisture-wicking and breathable properties effectively wick away sweat whislt walking while naturally modulating a walker's temperature. Merino products such as the Icebreaker Tech Lite shirts are a perfect choice for the Oxfam Trailwalker base layer while Smartwool and Icebreaker socks will keep toes dry and cushioned.  

Having a pack that is lightweight and fitted to the walker is essential for the trailwalker event. A well-fitting pack will ensure that weight is distributed onto one's hips instead of their shoulders. While the shoulders will fatigue aafter only a few hours of walking, a pack that distributes the weight more evenly prevents such strain.
